an edible hedgerow for a georgian townhouse
Front gardens are often practical spaces, for passing through, rather than to pause within. This particular front garden was the main outdoor space for the property. It needed to be a functional thoroughfare, but also a space to enjoy year round. The material palette is humble and understated, to complement the local vernacular. Reclaimed granite slabs set within a bed of crushed local granite form meandering pathways amongst the islands of textural planting. A focus on edible perennials and forgeable hedgerow plants create a garden that is not only beautiful, but productive. Steel estate fencing and a modest gate constructed from reclaimed materials form a simple boundary.
